Montessoris have grown in popularity in recent years, with many schools across the country offering their students an opportunity to study outside the classroom.
However, the school movement has been a rocky one in recent times, with critics and some parents claiming that many schools are not giving students the time and resources they need to be successful.
Now, Montessorie experts are warning parents that the school model is not the answer to raising children in a safe, nurturing environment.
“Parents want to know that the choice is not to have the school as a home for the child, it’s to have a safe environment, a safe school environment that’s accessible, a school that is open for the kids to get involved,” Montessoria Association of America president and CEO Paul R. Fussell told the Associated Press.
Fusell said many parents are upset about what they feel is a lack of support in the school system for students with special needs.
“Montessori has a history of providing high quality care, a history that is not well-documented,” Fusell said.
Fusessell said some parents have also been left disappointed by what they have been offered by schools that offer Montessoric programs.
He said some of these programs offer a curriculum that is outdated, with no guidance or support for learning.
“The Montessorian approach has had some success in certain states but it’s not universal,” Fusesell said, adding that most of the students who receive Montessorial training are placed in special education.
He noted that some schools also have been criticized for failing to address concerns about students who have disabilities or who may be in foster care.
Fumesell also said that many Montessoriatis do not have the resources they might need to educate their students in the classroom, which has become a major issue for Montessorias in recent decades.
In a recent report, the National Council of Montessories said that over the past two decades, Montréal’s school system has lost more than 50,000 students.
The group added that many of these students have suffered from mental health problems or developmental disabilities.
Fumetti told Next Big Futures that there are many ways to address these issues.
He pointed to the school’s efforts to address students with disabilities and students with learning disabilities.
“In some ways it’s very difficult for these students because the school has been struggling with this,” Fumett said.
“It’s also very challenging because we are in a world that’s evolving, and we’re going to have to deal with it for the next century.”
