Students at the Texas Southern University in Corpus Christi are making a statement about their education.
On Sunday, the school’s senior class got a tattoo of an eagle on their left arm.
The eagle symbolizes the Texas high school graduation, which is on Sunday.
The students are taking part in the “Texas Eagle Gathering” where they get to pick their favorite symbols, choose a mascot and wear them on their arm.
One of the students, Lacey Kiely, said that she wanted to be a part of the “empowerment” of the tattoo.
Kieley, who is the junior majoring in sociology, said she chose the eagle because of the school motto “Be a Good Eagle,” which she said makes her feel “more comfortable around people.”
“We have a very proud and beautiful school and its something that we want to have on our arm,” Kieles said.
Kies senior class said they were excited to be getting the tattoo, and that they wanted to get a quote for it.
“It’s just the perfect symbol to represent the way we are as a community and the way that we do things in school,” she said.
Martinez is one of the seniors who got the tattoo on her left arm and says that it made her feel like she was representing the entire school. “
This is the first time in my life that I’ve actually felt like I’m representing my school and my district,” Kies sophomore junior, Maribel Martinez said.
Martinez is one of the seniors who got the tattoo on her left arm and says that it made her feel like she was representing the entire school.
“The whole purpose of the graduation was to be able to wear a tattoo and not have to worry about it anymore,” she told Vice News.
She said she was nervous about getting the ink but that it was a great way to show her support for the graduating class.
“We are very excited to have the tattoo and show our support,” Martinez said of the event.
The high school senior class is making their way through the graduation, and said they will get to choose their mascot, the eagle, in the coming weeks.
